Agostina Suazo

Chilean painter, muralist and digital illustrator based in Austria since 2010.

My work is a continuous exploration of identity, resilience, and the complexities of the human experience, with a particular focus on the feminine. The patterns that adorn my paintings are more than aesthetic choices; they are symbols, deeply embedded in the social and cultural expectations placed on women. These intricate, often painstakingly detailed designs represent the demanding labor that is associated with maintaining an idealized image of beauty and perfection. In this, the act of painting these patterns is both a tribute to and a reflection on the immense effort women must exert to meet these societal standards.

Through this labor-intensive process, I aim to highlight the tension between beauty and strength, between delicate expression and the resilience required to endure constant pressure. The patterns themselves become a metaphor for the repetitive, often invisible work women perform in order to conform to external expectations—whether that’s in their roles as caretakers, performers, or as symbols of idealized beauty. Each brushstroke represents not only a personal act of creation but also a universal commentary on the exhausting and relentless effort women expend in pursuit of external recognition, often at the cost of their true selves.

This intricate process is an ode to the complexity of labor in a woman’s life—an acknowledgment of both its weight and its transformative power. By embracing the tension between delicate and powerful forms, I aim to reflect the duality inherent in the female experience: the balancing act of maintaining an outward appearance while navigating the personal journey of self-expression and authenticity.

In my art, there is no separation between the physical and the emotional. The act of painting large-scale murals, as well as the intimate work on smaller canvases, embodies this dichotomy of strength and sensitivity. These contrasts are central to my identity as an artist, and they are a way of channeling both the visible and invisible struggles that shape women’s lives.

Through my work, I invite the viewer to reflect on the power and complexity of the feminine experience—one that is not defined by societal standards, but by the quiet strength of those who continue to defy them.
